DUTIES:

  • Reporting to the Windsor Public Library CEO or designate, the successful applicant will be responsible for the effective overall management of branch staff for the Windsor Public Library system.  
  • The successful candidate will be responsible to direct and manage 25 full-time employees at the Central Branch of the Windsor Public Library including the responsibility for scheduling, staff allocations, staff evaluation, staffing needs, outreach, special projects, programming requirements, and labour relations matters of library services. 
  • Will conduct training for staff on new and existing programs. 
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation, and ongoing evaluation of library procedural practices.
  • Will be responsible to evaluate and identify trends within library services and develop strategies for library services and programs. 
  • Will create an implementation plan for changes in service, programs, policies, and procedures as necessary. 
  • Will model excellent customer service practices, build mutually beneficial community partnerships, and maintain amiable relations with the public and fellow employees.  Responsibilities will include investigating and resolving customer complaints; authorization of expenditures; and provide formal input into budgetary requirements for staffing needs and branch hours. 
  • Will perform Occupational Health and Safety duties as outlined in the Corporate Health and Safety Program. 
  • Will perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Masters degree in Library Science and Information Studies or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of two (2) years managerial experience in a library environment inclusive of collection development experience, evaluation and acquisition of electronic resources and materials.
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required.  If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver’s license is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Must have effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Must have project management skills and experience.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and leadership skills.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment and be flexible in the acceptance of assignments and change of tasks.
  • Must have demonstrated decision making ability together with competency in problem solving and problem analysis.
  • Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
  • Will be required to complete and remain current as per the requirements of the Corporation’s Management Certificate Program.
  • Progression through the Art of Supervision Program Certificate or a supervisory program of a similar nature is considered an asset.
  • May be required to lift up to 27 lbs.
