Snow Angels Snow Removal - Volunteer Program

Job Details

Calling All Snow Angels!

The City of Windsor is looking for volunteers to assist with snow removal.

During the winter months, many seniors and citizens with physical disabilities are unable to clear the snow from their sidewalks. This creates a hazard because people with limited mobility may suffer injuries on ice and snow. Snow-covered sidewalks make it difficult, if not impossible, for those who deliver services to our community, like EMS, fire, and postal workers to do their jobs.

That’s why the City of Windsor offers the Snow Angels Program, a volunteer snow removal service that attempts to match volunteers with nearby residents requiring assistance. All that is asked of the volunteers  is to shovel the sidewalks bordering their assigned property within 12 hours of the end of snowfall.Safety is our number one concerns and volunteers have no direct contact with the homeowner and are to maintain physical distance if approached by resident or any other individual.

Why be a Snow Angel?

  • Help ensure that seniors and people with physical disabilities are not house-bound during the winter
  • Potentially save the life of a neighbour by reducing their risk of cardiac illness if they would attempt to remove the snow themselves and by keeping the route clear in case an emergency vehicle is called to their home
  • It’s great exercise!
  • For high school students 16 and over, it’s a great way to meet your 40-hour community service requirement

We ask that  interested participants  complete a Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance ($25) upon registration with the City of Windsor.  Police Clearance can be submitted either in person at 400 City Hall Square, Suite 408  attention to the Snow Angels Coordinator or email a scanned copy to . We also request that  you send  your receipt so we can reimburse you for the cost of the Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance. We will then contact you for the rest of the Volunteer Information Package and pair you up with a resident within your selected proximity.
