Part-Time Airport Maintenance Specialist Trainee (AMS)
Windsor International Airport (“YQG”) is currently recruiting for the position of Part-Time Airport Maintenance Specialist (AMS). We are looking for result oriented, reliable and highly adaptable individuals that enjoy tackling various tasks in a team-setting environment. Whether maintaining airport grounds, facilities or equipment in accordance with Canadian Aviation Regulations, Transport Canada, Federal Regulations and safety standards, the AMS plays a key role in ensuring that the airport provides various services adhering to all stipulated safety regulations.
Duties:
Under the direction of the Manager of Operations you will:
- Conduct daily perimeter checks of the airport property for deficiencies and/or adverse conditions and report these to the Manager of Operations
- Wildlife control measures
- Identify the need for fence repair
- Ensures all related equipment is prepared and available for use at all times
- Operate an aviation radio and continuously monitor correct frequency to maintain continuous contact with air traffic control and/or aviation traffic
- Operate tractors with attachments; small engine equipment (trimmers, chainsaws, and generators); plow trucks; sweepers or sanders.
- Clear snow and ice from groundside parking lots and roads, airside hangar areas, parking aprons, taxiways, runways, graded strip along runway and taxiway edges, and the threshold ends
- Conduct field checks to assess snow or ice conditions, depth accumulation, wind, and weather forecasts to determine the appropriate techniques and equipment to be used as per established procedures
- Controls vegetation growth by performing grounds maintenance and landscaping, such as mowing grass and tree and bush control activity
- Provides Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) fire service upon successful completion of Certification Level A and B under supervision
- Occupational Health & Safety requirements as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a recognized high school diploma or OSSD equivalent
- Must hold a valid Class “D” driver’s license with “Z” brake endorsement to operate various airport equipment.
- Experience with airport operations and programs, as well as an understanding of protocols and procedures related to aviation safety would be considered an asset.
- Must be available for shift work and irregular work hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
- Able to lift heavy objects unaided and repetitively weighing up to 70 pounds (32 kilograms).
- Must hold or have the ability to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of Transport Canada Airport Security Clearance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Candidates will be subject to a medical evaluation.
- Previous experience driving snowplow or doing snow removal would be an asset.
- Having Fire Training and experience would be an asset.
- Other maintenance or mechanical related skills i.e. Construction, welding, small engine repair, plumbing would be considered an asset.
- Testing may be required as part of the initial screening process.
Rate of Pay: $19.25/hour (2020 Rate)
