DUTIES:

Reporting to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisors/Manager, this position will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to motorized vehicles and other equipment, using proper tools and methods.  Validates inspections, while abiding by all government acts and regulations, in a safe, professional and efficient manner.  Inspects and performs preventative maintenance to equipment and motorized vehicles; Diagnoses, repairs, rebuilds and/or replaces engines, computerized ignitions, various fuel systems, hydraulics, drive train, brake systems, air conditioning systems, air ride systems, tires, etc.  Operates a diagnostic computer terminal to help identify problems; Reads blueprints and electrical schematics; Welds and fabricates using oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment; Maintains cleanliness of equipment, tools, and work areas.  Writes detailed reports, estimates and work orders completely and accurately as required; Communicates and cooperates with other employees with minimum supervision; Guides other employees and trainees; Operates all vehicles and equipment; Works in all types of weather and conditions; Required to perform on-street repairs, bus change-offs and towing as needed.  Practice safe working habits at all times and uses suitable protective equipment as required.  Follows all guidelines as set forth by WHMIS training for the safe handling of materials.  Responsible to lift/carry various parts, tools across all ranges during the course of their daily duties. Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.  Will perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • Must possess a current Certificate of Qualification 310T (Truck and Coach Technician). 
  • Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful Class G Driver's Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have maintained an acceptable job performance record.
  • A Certificate of Qualification 310S (Automotive Service Technician) would be considered an asset.
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a heavy to very heavy level of work.
  • Must complete a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job.
