RATE OF PAY*:  $36.55 per hour

PREMIUM: 10% will be added to the hourly base shown while working in this skilled trade

DUTIES:

  • Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor or the Manager of the Little River Pollution Control Plant, and under the guidance of the Overall Responsible Operator (Chief Operator) when required, works as a Certified Industrial Mechanic abiding by all Acts and regulations in a safe and efficient manner. 
  • Will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, maintain, install and remove all required sewage treatment plant and pumping stations equipment utilizing proper tools and methods in conjunction with the complete operation of the plant. 
  • Will rebuild and replace worn parts when required by measuring and machining parts to exact sizes.  Will hoist and rig machinery by over-head crane to various locations up to ten (10) ton capacity; reads and sketches drawings and fabricates and welds, utilizing various methods (i.e. brackets, stands, pulleys, special needs). 
  • Responsible for logging daily reports and giving written reports;
  • Orders tools and parts as required; instructs and guides Pollution Control Mechanic Trainees;
  • Communicates and cooperates with other employees;
  • Works in all types of weather conditions; works with minimum supervision.
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. 
  • Will perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma plus a two (2) year Community College program as outlined in Note 2 below, or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalencies;
  • Must have a Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Trade Code 433A;
  • Must have over one (1) years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of an operations facility;
  • Must pass a mechanical aptitude test given by the Corporation;
  • Must pass the Operator in Training (OIT) exam, prepared by the Ministry of Environment, within 60 days of employment;
  • Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful Class ‘G’ Driver's License in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
  • Welding credits or certificates a definite asset;
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a heavy level of work.
  • Must complete a post-offer agility test in an effort to assist the successful candidate in completing the position tasks safely and to aid in minimizing injuries on the job.

Note 1:

Employee is urged to take the typhoid and tetanus shots as prescribed by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit and should commence the inoculation program within thirty (30) days of employment in the Pollution Control Branch.

Note 2:

As a minimum this program would be one of:

  • Power Engineering Technology
  • Industrial Apprenticeship Programs
  • Engineering or Environmental Technician/Technology Program
  • Terrain & Water Resource Technician Program
  • Engineering or Science Degree

Note 3:

  • For the term of the current Collective Agreement (i.e. January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2024) a 10% premium will be added to the base hourly shown while working in this skilled trade.
