DUTIES:

Reporting to the Manager, Arenas & Recreation Facilities or designate, this position will be responsible to assist with the oversight and day to day operation of the WFCU Centre including, rentals, programming, special events, OHL/NBL games etc. as well as oversight of Lakeview Park Marina including seasonal boat dockings, overnight accommodations and special event/fishing tournaments.

  • Will oversee sport services including field rentals of sports fields (soccer, baseball cricket etc.) which includes working closely with the Parks& Facilities Department to communicate needs to user groups and coordinate scheduling of services.
  • Responsible for the oversight of revenue producing services such as concessions and vending machines and management of all 3rd party contracts associated with those services within the WFCU Centre and Marina, as well as oversight and control of expenditures and revenues within the approved budget;
  • Will take payments and reconcile outstanding accounts; analyze daily, weekly and seasonal expenditure reports; complete financial analysis of new business initiatives and operational impact for services within the WFCU Centre and Lakeview Park Marina.
  • Provides input into strategic, business planning and budget exercises.
  • Will establish community linkages and partnerships with local, provincial, national and international organizations;
  • Will liaise with all community stakeholders, including but not limited to boaters, community groups, Mayor and Council, City departments, media, customers, and the general public. Ensures the delivery of exceptional customer service in regards to inquiries, including concerns, questions and queries regarding the facility, special events, construction and facility improvements, programs, and other services.
  • Will liaise with the Marketing and Communications staff and TWEPI for marketing, advertising and promotions of programming and rentals at the WFCU Centre and Marina;
  • Oversees group sales. Submits strategy, implementation plans and recommendations for new business development opportunities.
  • Utilizes the new ActiveNet software and social media platforms for marketing and advertising of programs, rentals and the facilities in general.
  • Helps ensure a safe work environment by responding to and monitoring possible security threats such as unwanted individuals in the buildings and take appropriate action related to removing such individuals, to directly oversee Lakeview Park Marina, Sports Fields and Outdoor Rinks.
  • Will assist the Manager in the recruitment of part time staff, staff supervision, programming, scheduling, evaluation reports, and the supervision of maintenance operations; hires, trains, schedules motivates and evaluates subordinates including Supervisor, Seasonal & Sports Facilitator, Recreation Clerk, Marina Staff and other recreation staff.
  • Ensures the ongoing training and development (coaching and counseling) of both union and non-union staff; measures and corrects activities of subordinates to ensure that work follows policies, procedures and training; ensures familiarization and compliance with all Federal, Provincial and Municipal legislation including but not limited to: the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Worker's Compensation Act, Ministry of Labour, Board of Health, Ontario Building Code etc.
  • The position will also directly supervise the Supervisor Lakeview Park Marina/Sports Services/Outdoor Rinks and the Marina Staff including oversight of bookkeeping and office procedures.
  • Will be required to be part of the rotation for being on-call for the division and to supervise facilities during major events and will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties.
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. 
  • Will perform other related duties as required.
     

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a University degree in Recreation, Human Kinetics, Physical Education, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in facility management, sales and marketing and guest services; OR
  • Must have a community college diploma in Recreation, Business Administration or related field or  Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency and over ten (10) years of experience in facility management, sales and marketing and guest services;
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required.  If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver’s License is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
  • Must have working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of Products;
  • Must have proven oral and written communication skills;
  • Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.
  • Basic Refrigeration Facility Operator Certification through the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association considered an asset;
  • Will be required to complete and remain current as per the requirements of the Corporation’s Management Certificate Program.
  • Progression through the Art of Supervision Program Certificate or a supervisory program of a similar nature is considered an asset.
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a light level of work.
  • Given that this job is a new position a Physical Demands analysis will be completed with the incumbent after approximately six months of occupying the position.
