RATE OF PAY:  $89,077.36 to $108, 284.62 Annually

DUTIES:

  • Reporting to a Manager, this position will be responsible for the operation and delivery of Ontario Works inclusive of employment and financial assistance programs, as well as, the staff supervision of a team of caseworkers and clerical support. 
  • To provide Ontario Works assistance and services in accordance with all relevant legislation, local policies and procedures and provincial directives;
  • Responsible for initial and ongoing eligibility for Ontario Works;
  • Ensure that programs and services are administered according to established legislation, policy and procedures, directives;
  • Maintain effective relationships with community agencies that are partners in service delivery; Recommend to Ontario Works Managers as to recruitment;
  • Promotion, discipline of staff;
  • Responsible for the training and development of staff;
  • Implement and monitor approved control procedures;
  • Prepare reports as requested;
  • Attend at Social Benefits Tribunal as required;
  • Participate in emergency preparation and response as required;
  • Assist in development of unit budget;
  • Lead and support transformational and innovation projects within the department. 
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program. 
  • Will perform other related duties as required.

 

NOTE: 

  • Supervisors of Ontario Works may be assigned to specific locations (Windsor/Leamington) at the discretion of the Managers of the Employment & Social Services Department and consequently specific duties will vary depending on needs. 
  • Supervisors should expect to be rotated to accommodate backup requirements and to encourage creativity and corporate development.
  • Notwithstanding the foregoing requirements and stipulations, this particular assignment will require the successful candidate to provide full-time supervision at the Windsor Office location.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a Master of Social Sciences, Master of Public Administration, Master of Business Administration or Master of Social Work or Ontario Ministry of Education Equivalency and a minimum of one (1) year job experience involving strong communication, multi-tasking, public speaking and leadership skills combined with knowledge of the legislation, policy and procedures and provincial directives; OR
  • Must have a University degree in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Administration or Social Work or Ontario Ministry of Education Equivalency and a minimum of two (2) years job experience involving strong communication, multi-tasking, public speaking and leadership skills combined with knowledge of the legislation, policy and procedures and provincial directives;
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required.  If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver’s License is required in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act;
  • Must have proven technical, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work;
  • Will be required to complete and remain current as per the requirements of the Corporation’s Management Certificate Program;
  • Progression through the Art of Supervision Program Certificate or a supervisory program of a similar nature is considered an asset;
  • Training in and familiarity with the provincial Social Assistance Management System (SAMS) is considered an asset;
  • The physical demands analysis associated with this job indicates a sedentary level of work.
